Indoor Watering Basics
You may be sitting at home right now thinking about starting your own Indoor cannabis grow and you begin reflecting on those formative years when you learned about what it takes for a plant to grow. On that list includes one of the most necessary inputs needed for your Indoor growing success, Water.
Water as we all know is one of the major building blocks of all life on the plant. It is extremely important for us and for our cannabis plants alike. Without water, there would be no life on Earth and that includes your precious cannabis crop.
Join me on a crash course about water and learn how to properly water your Indoor cannabis plants the right way at home!
The Watering Lessons
(The First Lesson)
The First lesson one must understand is how often you must water your Indoor cannabis plant.
Allow me to help! Below I will provide you with a general rule of thumb to follow based on the Indoor cannabis growing stage you are in.
Watering Rule of Thumb: Water your plant every 3 days. On the 3rd watering round, mix in a liquid fertilizer depending on what stage you are in.
Example: I water my cannabis plant on Jan.1st. I then wait till Jan. 4th for the next watering. On Jan. 7th I water with liquid fertilizer mixed into the water as well.
The Stage Breakdown:
Vegetation Stage (The ‘Greening’ Stage)
– Water your plant every 3 days. On the 3rd watering round, mix in a liquid fertilizer depending on what stage you are in. Refer to the fertilization link to discover the answers to all your fertilizing questions.
Initial Flowering Stage (The ‘Flowering’ Stage)
– Water your plant every 3 days. On the 3rd watering round, mix in a liquid fertilizer depending on what stage you are in. Refer to the fertilization link to discover answers to all your fertilizing questions.
Bud-site Formation Flowering Stage
– Water your plant every other day. On the 3rd watering round, mix in a liquid fertilizer depending on what stage you are in. Refer to the fertilization link to discover answers to all your fertilizing questions.
(The Second Lesson)
The Second Lesson one must understand is how much water your Indoor cannabis plant requires.
Indoor cannabis growing has many variables that play into the amount of water needed and each Indoor grow is different in its own way.
Allow me to help! Below I will provide you with a general rule of thumb to follow based on the pot size your Indoor cannabis plant is growing in and grow stage.
Watering Rule of Thumb:
Vegetation/Initial Flowering Stage
– 16 oz of water per plant should suffice for plants in a medium size pot.
– 32 oz of water per plant should suffice for plants in a large size pot.
Bud-site Formation Flowering Stage
– Quarter Gallon of water per plant should suffice for plants in a medium/large size pot.
(Third Lesson)
The Third Lesson one must understand is the quality of water your Indoor cannabis plant requires.
We recommend using these water sources:
1) Filtered Tap Water (The better option)
2) Rainwater (The best option)
3) Well Water (The better option)
4) Potable Store Water (The good option)
(Forth Lesson)
The Forth Lesson one must understand is the pH of the water your Indoor cannabis plant requires.
Cannabis plants tend to like a neutral water pH of 7 which will allow for optimal growth. You can test your water pH and raised/lower if needed in order to reach that suggested criteria. The link will take you to a blog all about pH and how to achieve what you need.
Tips:
1. Overwatering Signs: If your cannabis plants’ leaves are limp and the soil is wet, this is a signal that you may be overwatering.
2. Under-watering Signs: If your cannabis plants’ leaves are drooping/wilting and the soil is dry, this is a signal that you may be under-watering.
3. Fabric Pots: If you are using fabric pots and you find that water is standing on the bottom catch tray, allow your plant several hours to see if capillary action will occur. This is when your plant slowly absorbs the water back into the root mass.
