The Redfern Team Makes a Difference: Earth Day 2025 Roadside Cleanup
The spirit of Earth Day was alive and well this past Saturday, April 26th, as the dedicated team from Redfern Hemp joined forces with the Caroline County Solid Waste Division for a meaningful community initiative. Under a slightly rainy sky, their mission was clear: to clean up the roadsides surrounding the Redfern Market, extending all the way to I-95.
“Hi, I’m Courtney Kusterer with Redfern Hemp. It is trash pickup day,” Courtney shared enthusiastically at around 10:30 am. “We are out here in front of the Redfern Market, and we are picking up trash from the market to 95 to help the community and just try to clean up a little bit.” This simple act speaks volumes about Redfern Hemp’s commitment not just to their business but to the well-being of their local environment.

“Team Up to Clean Up!”
This year marked the third annual “Team Up to Clean Up” event, a testament to the ongoing dedication of the Caroline County Solid Waste division and the wonderful volunteers who show up to make a real difference. Eric Johnson from the division expressed his gratitude, saying, “As you can see, we have a lot of the volunteers showing up now to, you know, kind of appreciation for them for their hard work and, you know, help keep the county clean.”
The organizers went the extra mile to show their appreciation for the volunteers’ hard work. Pizza, water, Gatorade, and a fantastic array of prizes were on hand to thank everyone for their time and effort. Eric emphasized the collective responsibility we all share in keeping our communities clean: “We all need to try to do our part, whether it be out picking up or even just being more aware when we do travel with trash and different litter and different things to keep more secure.”
Small Businesses Unite for Earth Day 2025!
The success of this event was also made possible by the generous support of numerous local businesses. Eric highlighted their crucial role: “We also would like to thank a lot of the local businesses that have given this event and have taken the time to show the need for this and appreciate the volunteers. We’ve had a bunch of local businesses help out with this event and give a lot of things like gift cards and different donations, door prizes, and different giveaways. We’re gonna be giving away to a lot of these volunteers.” This collaborative spirit between local businesses and community initiatives is truly inspiring.
Despite the “great rainy day,” as Graham humorously noted, the Redfern team and other volunteers persevered, demonstrating that a little bit of weather can’t dampen the enthusiasm for making a positive impact on the environment.

This Earth Day cleanup serves as a powerful reminder that even seemingly small actions, like picking up roadside trash, can contribute to a cleaner, healthier, and more beautiful community. A big thank you to the Redfern Team, the Caroline County Solid Waste Division, all the dedicated volunteers, and the supportive local businesses for their commitment to environmental stewardship! Let’s all take inspiration from their efforts and find our own ways to make a difference, every day.
